Definitive versions
Over the years, I haven’t had much difficulty in picking up pieces I’ve done from before, dusting them off, and maybe tweaking them a bit further if there’s a use for them. I didn’t think that would be the case, when I started out. I haven’t done it a ton, mind you, but it’s happened. The image here is one such case.
In many cases here at Art of the Day, if there are digital tweaks over the painting, I often put the painted version up top here as the definitive version. Often those tweaks are client requests and sometimes they aren’t changes I would have made, so while I’m happy to oblige for my clients’ sake, I usually consider the painting the definitive version. It’s tougher here, but I have the 2012 version above at top this time. Partially, it’s because the changes were my own choices.
