Argus Prevailing (2000)
Stepping back to re-tool
In mid-2000 I bit the bullet and decided to take a break from freelance illustration and get a job after feeling a bit burnt out and a little lost at sea from my first, very busy years in illustration. Being in the Silicon Valley, this meant that video games were a good place for someone with my skillset to look, and so I did. Unfortunately I had zero experience within the industry and at the time very minimal digital art facility. I mostly used digital tools at the time for scanning and correcting art, and for primitive web graphics use.
Fortunately, I found an employer in what is now Kru Interactive. At the time, it was the very small first attempt for Korean developer Nexon in establishing an American beachhead. There were maybe 10 employees total when I was hired. Nexon had some decent success in South Korea already, and would go on after this period to have a lot of success worldwide. But this period was tough for them to find their footing in the west. There’ll be more on that.
