I’ve had a weakness over the years for donuts, I confess. The past number of years I’ve had to mostly swear off stopping in at the mom-and-pop places, for health’s sake. I’ve mostly limited my donut consumption to going to fancy, “Artisinal,” donut shops while traveling. These are fun to discover and sometimes have amazing selections. But they tend to not have a lot of the classics, like the chocolate crueller.
Painting food items like this, versus fruits or vegetables or other things I can paint and not eat, is a simple affair. Here, of course upon finishing, I have to eat the item. So while I have intended to paint other donut offerings, I’ve also been wary of doing so! I’m pretty sure, for instance that if I were painting your standard glazed donut today, you would probably see two in the composition. For design reasons, of course.
