A creature of my very own
It was clearly the case that this assignment came with a different name, initially, because when I saw the card in print I was struck by the title, and upon asking Art Director Matt Wilson about it, I learned that they had changed the title and that it meant, “Gallegos Monster,” generally speaking.
I had titled it, “The Bog,” when I did it, which I am pretty sure was also not how it was assigned. Legend of the Five Rings in particular often had basic descriptors as assignments. At the time I had not been to Japan, which I did in 2000 and 2004. And Japanese was a completely foreign language to me, as it wasn’t until after my second trip, and then really after 2008 that I made any actual attempt at learning the language. So this was all a kind of, “Oh neat,” moment at the time.
