I never lived among cornfields, so I can’t attest to how creepy they are, although I can easily imagine feeling claustrophobic running through them. One of the best things about cornfields, as an 80’s kid, was the story of crop circles. I remember seeing these as a kid on the evening news and feeling that great sense of mystery that was only possible before the internet. Because post-internet, you could go online and find a million people attempting to debunk whatever, even if they were all wrong. You can say, “Water is wet,” and someone will try to debunk you.
But in the 80’s, you’d see or hear about a weird happening and…that was it. You’d talk about it with friends and family but if these things were far away, you’d probably not see or hear about the story again, and the mystery remained. Maybe sometime later you’d see another report about crop circles, and then nothing. People just lived with unresolved thoughts, sometimes for years. I know this is hard for some of you to imagine.
