MTG: Hour of Reckoning (2005)
The moment things changed
When I worked on the Ravnica set for Magic in early 2005, it was on the eve of our leaving California, where I was born and lived in San Jose the whole 30 years of my life, to head to Europe for a bit. This meant that in the months leading up to the move, I decided to expand my toolset by adding digital art. I was late to the game, but didn’t want to be so much more behind that I might never get aboard. I was, and continue to be, a reluctant digital artist.
Interestingly, this still wasn’t the first time I used digital tools on a Magic card, but it was the first time I didn’t use paint or pencil at all.
