MTG: Sage of Epityr (2005)
At land’s end
Painted in the winter and being in England at the time meant that I was probably subconsciously affected by the weather here—note other pieces done around this time like Sprite Noble, with its gray sky as well. I seem to recall that the Magic world itself was also gloomy?
I hesitate to make too many assumptions about what was asked for here, as I no longer have records of the assignment notes, but this composition changed little from its earliest conception as a digital thumbnail / rough. I use those words interchangeably, but thumbnail is my preferred term. This is shorthand for small very rough sketches (the idea being they aren’t much bigger than a thumbnail, but in reality they are never that small).
