The Visions set took inspiration from Africa, the first time Magic began intentionally using world cultures as inspirations for entire sets. But it was still fairly early in the game’s history, and it meant you could have some images which were still rooted in reality. This was definitely one of them, with these named sand storms being a feature of real life.
I happened to have the assignment sheet for this piece still, faxed over.
