Most of the still life pieces I had done through this time were just object and colorfield background. While that remains my preferred way to do these, when painting Persimmons, I pulled in this silver-plated bowl for a change of pace. I think I actually bought it at an antique shop for this very purpose. It then sort of sat in my studio for awhile after, since I didn’t really know what to do with it after that.

For years, a good friend we’ve known since High School has given us persimmons every season from the large tree in her backyard. She brings us fresh and dried persimmons. That year, as she was heading up and mentioned that a delivery was coming our way, I asked if she could include some leafy branches or something, as I wanted to include that with the fruit.
