Trying to find a balance with digital
The story, “Arrow of Defiance,” published as a middle-grade reader, featured a number of illustrations rendered in black and white acrylic on canvas then colored digitally. One of the advantages of this method is that the rendering has more texture than digital, which can tend towards a more plastic, clearly synthetic finish.
In this scene, our protagonist is a teen and is chided for her criticism of the tribe’s traditions of not allowing the women to hunt.
