Sketch Gallery 7
It’s-a-me, MAR10

Internet meme days are dumb but also, as I am posting every weekday, give me an opportunity to theme some posts, including this month’s sketch gallery, which features a few things themed around Nintendo games.
The map here has our character pointing to Hyrule Castle in Breath of the Wild, where the game reaches its climax. I had just finished playing it not long before.
Technically part of my Hearts for Hardware series, a collector asked me to paint a Tetris cartridge onto this blank front Magic card. It is therefore the smallest entry in the series, but I still endeavored to paint the cartridge at about actual size, as is my practice.
At an event, someone handed me this card from the game Munchkin’, which I’m not familiar with and asked me to alter the card to change whatever was on there before, for a card entitled, “Crabs.” I thought about it for a bit, bemusedly, until my inner gamer asked if the person knew the old arcade game Mario Bros., and the answer being yes, I proceeded to draw out this pixel-art version of the game’s Sidestepper enemies. I used some color Sharpies.
I don’t do card alters much these days but would sometimes do them at events, back then. Working tiny is fun but challenging and I stopped doing them because I’d rather do them with a bit more polish, but at events it’s not so easy. Here, I extended an Island card from Tempest, which I illustrated, downward to cover the superfluous text box, and tossed a Magicarp on it because why not?
Video game themed stuff is easy and fun, and it doesn’t take much for me to indulge it.

I love these!
