The benefits of being open-minded
The Shadowfist game was art directed in its early days by Jesper Myrfors. Jesper was one of the original Magic artists and that game’s first art director. He was the one who hired me for my first gig, so when he later went over to work on this other game, I was happy to help when asked. That the genre was a mashup of Hong Kong and other action films of the late 80s wasn’t something I thought too much about back then—these days I might pause and consider whether the genre was right for my work, but I wasn’t picky back then. For better or worse.
The better about it was that doing a wide range of subject matter had me in unfamiliar territory often, which does over time push the breadth of what you can do.
