The Five Year Plan
There is what I call, “The Five Year Plan,” with regards to certain personal pieces. This is the average amount of time it takes for me to get around to painting something non-commissioned, from its conception, even if just in my mind. The longest piece still in the pipeline, which I still hope to paint (as of 2026) is a piece I concepted in the early 2000s and even shot reference for back in 2006.
The theme here was simple, perhaps trite: mermaids. An image regarding one such got lodged in my head maybe 4-5 years prior. In 2006 while living for a bit in England, I began working on it.
