Welcome to Art of the Day
Full launch Friday August 22!
When I was young and inspired by art books I had at the time, the ones I enjoyed most were the ones where the artist also included significant amounts of text along with the art and preliminary and process images. I learned a ton about how to think about art, and grew to value and appreciate the artists all the more.
Art of the Day endeavors to provide that kind of deep dive into my work, spanning 30+ years as a professional, with a few trips even further into the past. Most days will focus on one painting or illustration, with background information and process images when I have any archived. Or perhaps a few sketches grouped together, with less text on a given day.
These posts, for paid subscribers, will appear Monday through Friday, when the subscription portion of Art of the Day launches Friday, August 22. Free subscribers will get full access to occasional notable posts, mostly for new releases, and previews of the daily posts. Founders will get a few occasional exclusive commission slots and maybe some other goodies, but mostly will do it for the love.
It is intended to be a kind of firehose of information. I hope that the paid subscription will be worth well beyond the cost, for what you get. As a music lover, I enjoy collector’s re-masters of older albums, especially when they come with booklets written by the musicians, demo versions, alternate recordings and unpublished songs. This is the experience I am trying to translate to Art of the Day. Something cool for you, every day.
Along the way, paid subscribers will also get first dibs on artist proof drawings and painting commissions, original art purchase opportunities, including previously vaulted Magic: the Gathering original art (meaning, works over 15 years old). Other exclusive goodies will be made available along the way. Free subscribers will get occasional access to goodies, including limited artist proof commission slots!
I don’t expect anyone to keep up with everything: 1-2 posts per week will feature the Magic: the Gathering art I am known for, and if a given day isn’t of interest, feel free to skip it or just scroll the images quickly and move on. Paid subscribers will also be able to just listen to the articles accompanying the text via voiceovers I’ll be recording, typically 3-5 minutes per day in length.
Livestreams, never-before-seen art, projects you never even knew I worked on. I am excited to share all this with you, and look forward to you following along.
