WOW: Burst of Knowledge (2006)
A sublime moment
The World of Warcraft trading card game often pushed for aesthetics well in line with its in-game personality. The game’s visuals are a bit lighthearted, with intentional deformations of materials and anatomy. For instance, edging on items is usually super chunky. The game makes use of candy colors often and its mood ranges from humorous to bad ass / metal.

It turns out that those things were largely at odds with my own aesthetics, and so as I tried to reach towards them, I often had difficulty crossing over as far as they’d have me do. So while I liked the game and enjoyed the opportunity to contribute to its visual canon, over time my involvement in the game would wane.
