MTG: Urza’s Incubator (2022)
Life happens behind every painting
Dominaria Remastered assignments arrived in my life at a pretty chaotic time. So chaotic in fact, that my Magic Art Directors here (Zack Stella) and for another project I was in the middle of, were accommodating in allowing me to stretch the deadlines way past the kind of day or two that sometimes is needed, to get things just right. This generosity had already been extended on the first wave of assignments for the set, which for me was the illustration for Sun Clasp.
The second wave of assignments landed right after that, but the chaos was continuing. One of the aspects of this chaos was a pending move. While the sketches were done in our old place during the very last days before we moved out (as seen in the post for Absorb), the finals for these were begun and finished in the temporary places we lived in for a few months until we got resettled.
